Romeo Gigli

Romeo Gigli is quite a unique figure in the Italian fashion history. Passionate traveller and art lover, he presented his first collection in Milan in 1985. His designs were different from anyone else’s: minimalist, cocoonish silhouettes, skinny trousers, fitted jackets, egg-shaped coats, narrow sleeves, tulip-skirts, flat shoes. He used wonderful combinations of colors – teal-blue, mauve, terracotta, saffron, bordeaux, eggplant, gold – and his ethereal style seemed to be the antidote to the 1980s fashion. Nevertheless, after ten years of great success, at the turn of the century Gigli disappeared from the fashion scene, because of poor business dealings and disagreements with his associates.
