Alexander McQueen

Born in London, Alexander McQueen started his career as an apprentice Savile Row tailor, then he worked as a theatrical costume designer and as an assistant at Romeo Gigli in Milan. After his entire Central Saint Martin College graduate collection was bought by fashion muse Isabella Blow in 1992, he launched his own label. Known for his dramatic, unconventional shows, McQueen’s aesthetics was at the same time dark and romantic, drawing on a broad range of inspirations, from his Scottish heritage to art, history and nature. After his premature death in 2010, his fashion house has been led by Sarah Burton.
